Natural Power and Energy installed a flagship 402.6 kW solar installation using high efficiency SunPower 305 W panels for National Bank of Arizona at its Tucson headquarters in October 2010.
NPE constructed three 200’ long parking shade structures atop National Bank’s parking garage, shading a total of 126 parking spots. The attachments for the canopies were specifically designed to accommodate the structural and load requirements of the existing garage structure. Great care was taken to hide all wiring to perfect the aesthetics of the system and prevent vandalism, and lights were attached to the underside for employee safety.
The system produces approximately 25% of the building’s electricity requirements, equivalent to the annual consumption of 55 Tucson homes, and is currently outperforming expectations by 9%.
Construction was completed in just 8 weeks from start to finish, with minimal disruption to Bank staff and customers, and upon commissioning it was the second largest commercial installation in the city of Tucson.
Over 100 people attended the ‘Flip the Switch’ Opening Ceremony to watch Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup unveil the system.
